The Internet of Things (IoT) is the phenomenon to establish an Internet connection between devices used in daily life. The main reason for the creation of this network is to help humans make decisions. Devices in this network are usually embedded with artificial intelligence, which uses data analytics to draw conclusions about a situation.


The core concept of the smart devices network was discussed back in 1982, when the modified Coca-Cola vending machine at Carnegie Mellon University became the first device to connect to the Internet, reporting its inventory and whether the newly loaded beverages were cold or not. Mark Weiser’s ubiquitous computing in 1991, “The Computer of the 21st Century”,
as well as educational sites such as Ubicomp and Perkham formed the contemporary vision of IoT. In 1994, Reza Raji described the concept in the IEEE spectrum as “moving small pocket data to a larger node to integrate and automate everything from home appliances to entire
industry”. Between 1993 and 1997, several companies proposed solutions such as Microsoft at Work or Novel’s Nest. By defining the Internet of Things
as “the point at which more things or objects are connected to the Internet than people”,Cisco Systems estimated that IoT was born between 2008 and 2009, with the content/population ratio growing from 0.08 in 2003 to 1.84 in 2010.
